In January 2024, across the entire network of JSC Russian Railways (RZD), 621.1 thousand loaded and empty TEU containers were transported in all types of traffic, which is 8.7% more than in the same period of 2023, including 255 thousand TEU shipped in domestic traffic (+16.7%).
The number of loaded containers shipped in all types of traffic increased by 6.5% to 442.3 thousand TEU (+7.9%), according to JSC RZD's press service.
A total of 6.5 million tons of cargo was transported, including:
- chemicals and soda – 68.1 thousand TEU (-0.5% compared to January 2023);
- timber cargo – 41.8 thousand (-4.5%);
- chemical and mineral fertilizers – 40.7 thousand (a 1.9-fold increase);
- manufactured goods – 33.6 thousand (-8.9%);
- metal hardware – 33.5 thousand (on par with last year);
- automobiles and components – 31.6 thousand (+23.1%);
- paper – 30.8 thousand (-6.5%);
- machinery, machine tools, engines – 28.7 thousand (-17.5%);
- construction materials – 19.2 thousand (a 1.5-fold increase);
- ferrous metals – 17.7 thousand (-18.8%);
- other and consolidated cargo (LCL) – 17 thousand (+17%);
- grain – 12.9 thousand (a 1.9-fold increase);
- non-ferrous metals – 10.5 thousand (+8.9%);
- petroleum and petroleum products – 7.5 thousand (+3%);
- non-ferrous ore and sulfur raw materials – 2.9 thousand (+19%);
- fish – 2.8 thousand (-10.6%);
- meat and animal butter – 1.8 thousand (-0.5%);
- milled products – 2.5 thousand (a 2.9-fold increase);
- potatoes, vegetables, fruits – 1.1 thousand (-31.6%);
- other food products – 21.7 thousand (+1.7%).
